Jeff Lerner was a man who turned his life around thanks to a few incredible decisions and opportunities. His story starts with a job as pianist, which left him with very little money.
"In 2008, my situation was dire. I was depressed, obese, and broke. I lived in the spare bedroom of my ex-wife, hiding from creditors, and faced bankruptcy with nearly $500,000 in debt. Jeff explains, "Then I discovered an online business."
He was a pianist and had many conversations about the success of other people's businesses. He knew he wanted to do the exact same thing. Although his passion for entrepreneurship is not new, he felt compelled to make it his full-time job. It wasn't an easy road to success.
I was able to host private parties at my home for several millionaires, and I made it a point of asking them about their lives and careers. These conversations inspired me to start my own business. I started business after business all throughout my 20s, trying to make more than I was earning as a pianist. After numerous business failures, I was almost half a billion dollars in debt by the time I was 29. With an injured hand and unable to play piano anymore, this left me with nearly half a million dollars of debt. To open two restaurants, I borrowed hundreds of thousands of dollars and spent 10 hours each day trying to keep them afloat. Jeff recalls that it was 2007 in the middle of the Great Recession. Jeff says his businesses and entire life were "falling apart".
