Not another "biz gurus" book.

Erik J. Olson is honest. Honest about his business, his life and for what seems like an old past time, the people he surrounds himself with. I swear everywhere I turn it's some other guru talking about how glorious they are and how grand their bank account is.

Funny thing, I see these others driving a 1987 Mazda 323. Maybe they just live the frugal lifestyle. But, all too often biz gurus are full of it. And not knowledge.

Million Dollar Journey breaks down what it took for Olson to get to a million bucks in annual revenue for his business, Array DIgital. Here's the catch, it takes time and it takes work, but if you follow Erik J. Olson's lead, you can probably shave at least 3 dayz off the journey in getting there yourself.

Probably more than 3 days, but I am an aspiring comedian and that was a solid joke. Please no sympathy laughs.

Million Dollar Journey paired with Eriks hit podcast Journey to 100 Million is a real deal documentation of what it takes to have success in business. Buy now. Buy some for your friends. And while you are at it, buy some Christmas presents.

I have known Erik for two years, the last of which he has been working on this book. It is finally available and it exceeds my expectations. As an author it is easy to ask yourself is it ready, is it good enough, did I make it clear enough? Yes, yes, and yes! Furthermore, it is the practical down to earth insights that would never occur to me without Erik’s help. Finally, I love that as a Kindle book I can ask Alexa to read it to me. Job well done!

Excellent Addition to the Startup Library! Best for Service Businesses

Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2021

Eric has provided a great addition to the startup library. And unlike many authors, it's his actual voice you hear in the audio-book version; he does a great job reading it. The sound quality is crisp and clear.

He covers a lot of the basic blocking and tacking in starting a business, like how and why to get your business license, how to pick a company name, the challenges that can happen if you pick the wrong name and how that can impact finding the right domain name (URL) and more. He spices it up by explaining real world examples from his business' journey in getting his company, Array Digital LLC, to it's first $1m and beyond.

If you are working on a services type business, especially an IT startup, you can learn a lot from this book. However, if you're bringing a product to market, while it will still be helpful through learning the basic blocking and tackling, don't expect it to cover anything on proof of concepts, provisional and utility patents, customer validation, production pilots, etc. There are other books for that. Instead, you'll also learn things about issues in giving employee raises, conducting annual employee reviews/employee agreements, raises, bonuses, promotions and more. Eric even discusses what happens when he took his employees on his company's first employee retreat to Knoxville, and what he learned from that as an employer.

I first met Eric at a Hampton Roads Project Management Institute (PMI) chapter meeting; he practices what he preaches, and is an overall great guy. His book is definitely a worthy addition to the startup scene. If you have a startup business that has employees, mitigate many of your risks by buying a copy, you'll be glad you did.
