An extra special episode of Millionaire Secrets for you today, as I’m joined by my wife, Jaqueline.

As you might expect, today’s podcast, "Interviewing Jaqueline Lerner, The Secret To Parenting Teens", has a very intimate feel to it.

I get a lot of questions about how I manage to juggle a happy home life whilst working crazy hours and being dedicated to ENTRE. Many of these questions focus on the relationship Jaqueline and I have with our kids and how we parent.

And so,

That’s the topic we dive into today.

How to be a best friend for your teenage children.

It’s something that most parents struggle with. Many well-intentioned parents find their kids shutting down, becoming moody, distant, and unfriendly.

From early on...

We knew we didn’t want that to happen in our family.

When our sons were still only 10 and 9, we started going to parent therapy sessions to learn how to be great parents in the years ahead.

One thing that our therapist said that really had an impact on us was,

Once your child turns 14, their friends are the biggest impact on their lives - not you.

And this is where so many parents get it wrong. They fight against it. They fail to let go.

Learn how Jaqueline and I parent differently.

From control to influence.

What a power team! Really refreshing to see a parenting team touching these subjects! So many great points here! Empathy is the currency of growth within! I agree so much with the approach of treating teenagers as equals and as intellectually worthy. They are the future after all! As soon as there’s pressure in a developing person’s life to represent a family name or an idea projected onto them they disengage. It makes far more sense to encourage them to believe in their own ability through positive reinforcement and an expectation of them to be themselves in its best form rather than to force your decided version of their personality. Celebrating uniqueness is one of life’s greatest joys. I personally like to keep my mindset in the “child-like wonder” zone of seeking and creating because as you two said so well adult life conventions often stifle expression and progression! Love this episode! ❤️

Very sincere conversation. The discussion starting around 35:00 and following is gold. Thanks to BOTH of you for opening your lives up, especially Jaqueline, very courageous to step onto the stage with the nonstop public speaker! As our teens grow up and grow out we are enjoying the experience. There are hard confrontations that sometimes need to happen but that is not the basis of our relationship. My wife has also been the person to teach me how to parent from influence first and not from pure authority.

Something that my wife and I have done a lot is share how we felt when we were teenagers. Not stories about our parents and what legendary heroes they were, but about how we struggled to be accepted and all the mistakes we made. We make a point to talk about all the things we would have liked to change, what we would have done differently with a little more perspective, and about the ways that authority figures often let us down.

If you do a future show on living happily with teens, you might tell more stories about moving from authority and control to influence. A story or three really illustrates the concepts and it plants images in your mind. :)

We are like minded. I am happy to see myself here. This is a huge confirmation to a stand that I already take. Amazing chemistry. I am finally home. I am about this kind of communication and it's a nice reflection from the both of you. Nice to see success and normal hit the intersection of unconditional love and understanding. Sweet.

Kudos to both of you! My children are grown, and yes, I made probably millions of mistakes while I learned. I genuinely liked my kids, and still do. I love that this is the first takeaway from your show today. Not only do you like your kids, you like their friends. So many people who are still raising children will benefit so much from your sharing today. I just really love the level of consciousness from both of you, and your willingness to share.

Thank you so much for this episode as a father I feel like I was doing the right thing by controlling my son and giving him a lot of discipline but he always goes over to his friend's house every weekend and he explained why he does to my fiance today. We kind of felt like he doesn't like to be around us anymore. and I'd like that to change so thanks for the advice.
