I felt like this was written for me. I encountered a lot of the situations in this book as I was also an engineer prior to entering the field of technical sales. I plan to make these techniques muscle memory moving forward.

Chiarello's book is a superb tutorial for sales people who are engaged in complex sales campaigns. His book should be read by anyone connected to the complex sales process, whether sales person, applications engineer, sales manager...CEO, too. Sandler is one of the best sales training out there. It is used by a lot of companies and the consultative approach isn't too salesy. The book is a little short however.

Although the book references a selling method (Sandler), it does a good job of speaking very directly to the problems faced by all vendors selling technology without losing the reader. If you work in any sort of technology company and have personal contact with clients, guess what - you are selling. Even if you are not "closing" in the traditional sense of sales, you are selling your viewpoint and ideas to someone; and there are unique problems in technology. The points made in this book are illustrated in practice by anecdotal stories so you know its not just theory, and does a great job of putting you in control of the process, understanding the boundaries, and giving you a system with goals so you know where you should be spending your focus and time. Sales is just as much an art and science as technology, and this book gives you the guidelines and tools of both so you can immediately put the concepts to work.
